What is Para Powerlifting?
Powerlifting is one of the fastest & safest growing sports worldwide (over 100 countries compete in Paralympic Powerlifting)! Initially introduced in 1984 at the Paralympics it was only catered for male athletes with a spinal cord injury, but in the years that followed the sport began to grow to include other groups too.
Para Powerlifting is a competitive sport where athletes compete in a lift called Bench Press. Each athlete must have one or more of the 8 currently recognized physical impairments. Athletes are divided into male & female divisions and compete within their respective weight categories.

Impaired Passive Range of Movement Range
(Lower) Limb Deficiency
Leg Length Difference
Short Stature
Hypertonia
